MAD ABOUT THE Bavarian State Opera

THE BAYERISCHE STAATSOPER

Munich boasts some impressive buildings and palaces, but I believe its Opera House takes the cake! The Bayerische Staatsoper is made up of towering pillars, twinkling antique lights with immaculate and detailed architecutre. There is no surprise that it is one of the world’s leading opera houses. This opera house has been brimming with life, song and culture for over 350 years! Thanks to a court tradition, opera found a home in Munich in 1653.

The Bayerische Staatsoper, with some 600,000 people attending its over 450 performances each year, makes a major contribution to Munich’s reputation as one of the great international cultural capitals. I did not get a chance to go in or hear beautiful opera, but I did manage to frolic around its front hall and steps. In the course of a single season, over 40 operas from four centuries are performed along with ballets, concerts and song recitals.

Through the wonderful use of Instagram, I connected with a fantastic up and coming photographer named Florian. We instantly hit it off being two creators out and about finding great spots to shoot. I love the simplicity of having something in common with someone else, we shared our joy for photography and art as we explored through Munich. We picked some side streets and cool buildings, but our last “why not” spot lead us to the Opera House. I was thrilled to see the majestic beauty and architecture that this building holds.

We spent an hour or more just photographing me running, frolicking, dancing and taking turns sharing creative visions. This was a such a wonderful afternoon that surpassed the usual blogging sensation, because it built a friendship, shared a passion for art and was an opportunity to feel free in a new place. Sometimes you cannot plan special moments like this—they just happen. I was so happy it did!
